Exciting Upgrades to Storyy Group’s Secondary Alternative Provision

At Storyy Group, we believe that every young person deserves the chance to thrive, regardless of the challenges they may face in traditional educational settings. That’s why we’re excited to introduce significant enhancements to our Secondary-aged Alternative Provision, designed to empower students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need for a successful future. Our comprehensive approach offers a range of services that cater to the diverse needs of young people, making us the ideal partner for schools and local authorities committed to student success.

We offer flexible Alternative Provision services tailored to the unique needs of young people, ensuring they receive the best support for a smooth transition back into mainstream education. When a young person is referred to us, our Referral and Integration Lead will collaborate with you to determine which of the following services is most suitable:

Reintegration: A 12-week programme focused on SEMH, SMART targets, and positive behaviour to reintegrate students into mainstream education.

Outreach & Respite: Prevents exclusions with education on exploitation, crime, behaviour, and well-being through assemblies, mentoring, and crisis support.

Qualification Pathway: Offers academic qualifications via ASDAN, AQA, and Functional Skills, using tutors, online learning, and mentoring.

SEMH Support: Preparing students for their next setting with SEMH activities, life skills, and interest-based Alternative Provision.

Awaiting Placement: Provides SEN-focused support with 1:1, sensory activities, and occupational therapy for students awaiting placement.

We understand how important it is for every young person to have the support they need to succeed, both in school and beyond. We have 3 Alternative Provision sites, with each catering to different skill seats – Birch Hill (The Hub, Sports, Gaming & Music), Storyybrook (Trades), Finchampstead (Educational, Life & Creative Skills). We offer a diverse range of mentoring and skills programmes to suit young peoples’ individual needs and interests:

Mentoring: Our “Every Child Deserves a Champion” mentoring programme is the cornerstone of our provision. We focus on building strong, trusting relationships with students to help them reintegrate into school, alter their current life paths, and overcome past traumas. With a track record of positively impacting over 1,000 young people in the past five years, our mentoring approach is both friendly and effective, offering the support that every child needs to flourish.

Functional Skills: We understand that core skills are essential for academic and everyday success. Our functional skills curriculum covers:

  • English: We focus on reading comprehension, writing clearly and effectively, and developing strong speaking and listening skills.
  • Maths: Our maths curriculum includes understanding and using numbers, basic arithmetic, geometry, data handling, and practical applications.

These skills provide a solid foundation, enabling students to confidently tackle both academic challenges and real-life situations.

Careers and Life Skills: Preparing students for the future is at the heart of what we do. Our careers programme offers comprehensive advice and guidance, helping young people explore their career options and align their skills with potential career paths. We also facilitate valuable work experience placements and apprenticeships, ensuring that students gain practical, hands-on experience in their chosen fields.

In addition to career guidance, our life skills programme equips students with essential tools to navigate adolescence and beyond:

  • Effective Communication
  • Decision-Making and Problem-Solving
  • Time Management
  • Financial Literacy
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Healthy Living
  • Social Skills and Relationships
  • Digital Literacy
  • Self-Care and Independence
  • Resilience and Adaptability

Our goal is to prepare young people not just for the next step, but for a lifetime of success and fulfilment.

Trades and Practical Skills: Recognising the importance of vocational training, we offer a range of trade skills training, including:

  • Bricklaying
  • Plastering
  • Mechanics
  • Carpentry
  • Roofing

Our expert instructors ensure that students not only gain technical proficiency but also develop a strong work ethic and a passion for their chosen trade. These practical, in-demand skills are essential in today’s job market, providing students with a solid foundation for successful careers.

Sports and Physical Education: Physical health and teamwork are vital components of personal development. Our sports programme includes:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Gymnastics
  • Boxing

These activities promote a healthy lifestyle while also teaching resilience, discipline, and the importance of teamwork.

Additionally, our Personal Training and Fitness sessions offer tailored fitness programmes that focus on strength and conditioning, cardio, and nutrition, helping students improve their well-being and explore potential career paths in the fitness industry.

Creative and Digital Expression: We offer a variety of programmes that allow students to express their creativity and explore digital skills:

  • Music: Students can channel their experiences and feelings into lyric writing, song recording, mixing, and instrument playing.
  • Gaming and Coding: We provide opportunities for students to build their own gaming platforms and learn about software and components.
  • Computing: Our courses cover essential skills such as using Word, Excel, Emails, and online safety.
  • Art and Design: These sessions allow students to express themselves creatively, reduce stress, and foster mindfulness.
  • Textiles: Students engage in clothes and trainer design projects, promoting creativity and problem-solving.
  • Photography: Students explore local communities, capturing images that build confidence and potentially lead to career opportunities in photography.
  • Hair and Beauty: Our salon provides a mini working environment where students can learn skills like nail painting and special effects makeup, promoting self-care and building self-esteem.
  • Podcasting: We give students the chance to discuss current events and personal experiences, helping them develop their voice and personal growth.

Accredited Qualifications: We believe that every student should have something tangible to show for their efforts. Our provision includes:

  • ASDAN Courses: We offer courses in Personal Development and Employability, helping students prepare for adulthood. Credits gained can be transferred to schools offering ASDAN.
  • City & Guilds: Our highest qualification is the City & Guilds construction course, providing students with a recognised qualification that can lead to future employment.
  • AQA Awards: We offer AQA awards across all sites, tailored to each student’s needs and aligned with their outcomes, giving them a tangible achievement to take forward.

Storyy Zen Dens: Understanding the importance of emotional well-being, we provide safe spaces where students can express themselves freely in a one-on-one environment. These sessions cover a range of topics, including current events, personal issues, and anything else the student wishes to discuss, offering a non-judgmental space for reflection and growth.

Our enhanced Secondary Alternative Provision is designed to meet the diverse needs of young people, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. We invite schools and local authorities to partner with us, refer students, and join us in our mission to transform lives through education. Together, we can create brighter futures for every young person.
