As we wrap up a vibrant term and welcome the brighter days of spring, we’re thrilled to share what March has looked like across our services. From hands-on science experiments in our Primary Alternative Provision, to cook-offs, boxing workouts, and meaningful community engagement in our Supported Accommodation homes, March has been packed with creativity, growth and connection. We hope you enjoy catching up on all the highlights and feel inspired by the incredible efforts of our young people and teams.
Alternative Provision
March has been a lively and enriching month across all our Alternative Provision sites.
At our Primary Alternative Provision, Storyybrook, the children explored the Human Body, learning about teeth and the effects of food and drink through hands-on experiments. They also investigated the science of sound, making string telephones and exploring sound vibrations together. We also celebrated World Book Day in style! Students dressed up as characters from their favourite stories and created their own tales using prompt cards, a fun and creative day for all.
Across our Secondary Alternative Provision sites, our focus has been on practical learning and personal development. Young people explored road and rail safety, wellbeing toolkits, online safety, and home safety. They earned several AQA accreditations in topics such as map reading, The Green Cross Code, and self-care.
At Birch Hill, young people enjoyed a trip to Leisure Matters in Eversley for team-building challenges. The students were praised by mentors for their determination, teamwork, and respectful attitudes. We also resumed visits to a local residential care home, where students spent time chatting with residents and playing games.
Over at Finchampstead, students took part in kitchen safety and hygiene sessions, earning AQA accreditations. A highlight was when three young people collaborated to prepare a delicious three-course meal, planning everything from ingredients and budgets to the cooking methods. Next term, we’re excited to host our very own “Come Dine With Me” challenge.
Students also got creative with nature photography and pastel drawings, studying colour theory and artistic styles. They explored hairstyle trends through the decades, with 60s styles being a favourite. Next term, they’ll experiment with vintage and modern makeup looks.
Our Trades provision has been buzzing with activity as students built a BBQ and seating area, constructed flower beds, and began growing plants. In Plastering, students learned to “muck up” and apply plaster correctly. They’re now confidently using PPE and tools safely to complete their own container-based projects.
As a reminder, our last day of term is Friday 4th April, and we return on Tuesday 22nd April. Wishing you all a safe and relaxing Easter break!
Supported Accommodation & Children’s Home
Supported Accommodation (16+)
We currently have 17 young people living across our four Supported Accommodation (16+) homes:
- 2 in school
- 7 in college
- 2 in apprenticeships
- 2 in employment
This month’s highlights:
- One young person completed their school exams
- Another began work experience in mechanics and is thriving
- One young person has begun their sports coaching apprenticeship following a successful DBS check
Activities & Wellbeing:
- Our Ramadan cooking sessions were a huge hit, with staff and young people preparing delicious meals together, including a bold lobster dish!
- Our PACE training continued, using video content co-produced by a young person and their support worker
- With the weather improving, we enjoyed walks around Horseshoe Lake and spent evenings doing outdoor circuit training thanks to donated fitness equipment, including boxing gloves, punchbags, dumbbells, and more
Young people are truly embracing healthier habits, and we’re so proud of their motivation and participation!
Children’s Home
- During March:
- We welcomed a new young person into our Children’s Home
- One of our residents has organised a charity car wash and cake sale for next month
- Several young people are currently preparing for their GCSEs
Apprenticeships & Training
March was an exciting month for our Apprenticeships and Training team! We had a fantastic time at the Childcare & Education Expo, connecting with Early Years professionals and spreading the word about our apprenticeships. It was great to reconnect with familiar faces and meet inspiring new contacts.
In even more exciting news, we’re proud to share that Storyy Group has been named a finalist in the Club Hub UK Awards 2025 for Supplier of the Year! Out of 261 entries, we’re thrilled to be one of just 75 finalists. The winner will be announced on Saturday 10th May in Birmingham. Wish us luck!
