Spring has truly sprung across at Storyy Group, and this month has been full of new beginnings, growth, and meaningful moments. From the arrival of two new furry friends at our Primary Alternative Provision site, to exciting community trips and workshops in our Supported Accommodation (16+), April has been a beautiful blend of creativity, connection and learning. We’re also celebrating the continued success of our apprentices and gearing up for an exciting event at the Club Hub Awards in May! Read on to explore everything we’ve been up to.
Alternative Provision
Exciting news from Storyybrook! We’ve welcomed two adorable guinea pigs into our community, aptly named Tom and Jerry. After persuasive presentations from our students to the Senior Leadership Team, the pets were officially approved. The children are now preparing to take on daily care duties, helping build essential life skills like empathy, teamwork, and responsibility.
To support engagement, we’ve launched several new learning incentives at Storyybrook, including:
- Newsround & Story Time as part of our morning Soft Start
- Daily reading with mentors using storytelling, shared and aloud reading
- Smaller topic groups for more tailored learning experiences
- Introduction of IXL to support Maths and English learning and track progress
Students also explored Planet Earth and maps, creating:
- Pinwheel models of the Earth’s layers
- Lego topographical maps of Britain
- Learning the 7 continents and 5 oceans
Across our Secondary provisions, young people dived into discussions around organised crime, even hosting a mock court session to apply what they’d learned. Other topics included community safety, kindness, and online awareness. We’ve also introduced dedicated learning spaces to support quieter, focused sessions with tutors Rachel and Steve, ideal for Functional Skills development.
At our Trades provision, students enjoyed the warmer weather with hands-on carpentry and bricklaying, building tables, chairs, and a new BBQ area for reflective time outdoors.
As always, we’re committed to refining and improving our services. If you work with us in any capacity, please take a few moments to complete our School Survey. Your feedback helps shape the best possible experience for our young people
