April has been a month of positive engagement, new experiences and continued development across Storyy Group. Across Alternative Provision, Supported Accommodation and our Children’s Homes, young people have continued building confidence through structure, creativity, practical learning and supportive relationships.
As the new term began, it has been encouraging to see young people returning to routine, settling back into sessions and continuing to take meaningful steps forward in their individual journeys.
Alternative Provision
Primary Alternative Provision – Storyybrook
April at Storyybrook has been full of creativity, exploration and hands-on learning.
The final week before the Easter break brought a range of themed activities across the provision. Young people explored how Easter is celebrated around the world, took part in Easter baking, created Easter cards and completed a scavenger hunt before finishing the week with an egg hunt. The atmosphere across the provision was positive and engaging, with young people enjoying opportunities to work together, be creative and celebrate their achievements at the end of term.
Following the return from the holidays, the focus shifted towards PSHE topics including bullying, feelings, money management and personal safety. Young people also took part in a session based on the NSPCC PANTs materials, helping build understanding around boundaries and keeping safe in an age appropriate and supportive way.
The following week, learning focused on reptiles. Young people explored reptile habitats, diets and characteristics, while looking more closely at snakes and lizards. Curiosity and discussion throughout the sessions were strong, with young people showing enthusiasm for learning and asking thoughtful questions.
This week, Storyybrook has been filled with creativity through arts and crafts sessions. Young people have been exploring different forms of art including clay, tie dye, symmetry and nature inspired artwork. They have also been learning about Henri Matisse and recreating pieces inspired by his work, encouraging imagination and self expression.
Looking ahead, upcoming topics include Under the Sea, Saving the Planet and Weather, continuing to provide opportunities for creative and engaging learning experiences.
It has also been a month of important transitions and achievements. Young people who worked hard to earn reward points last term celebrated with a group trip to Laser Tag, while others chose movie sessions and ice cream on site. It was particularly enjoyable to see the young people proudly defeat the mentors during a children versus mentors game.
We also said goodbye to one young person who had been with us for almost a year and was supported through his transition into a new school by Charlie. Alongside this, we welcomed seven new young people into the provision this month, all of whom have settled in positively.
Overall, April has been a successful month at Storyybrook, filled with engagement, creativity and positive progress.
Secondary Alternative Provision
Across our secondary provisions, young people have continued engaging in PSHE sessions focused on drugs and alcohol, vaping, smoking and healthy relationships. These discussions have encouraged reflection and mature conversations, with young people raising thoughtful points and building understanding around topics that directly impact their wellbeing and decision making.
Throughout these sessions, young people have completed quizzes, worksheets and awareness posters, while also working towards AQA achievements linked to the topics explored.
Outside of PSHE, young people have continued developing their own projects and areas of interest including hairdressing, baking, art and design and childcare. These projects have allowed young people to build confidence, independence and practical skills through activities that feel purposeful and engaging.
Boxing sessions have also become a valued part of the provision, with several young people consistently attending sessions each week. The sessions continue to support discipline, emotional regulation, fitness and confidence, while giving young people a positive outlet and structured challenge.
Across all sessions, young people have responded well to predictable routines and clear expectations. Knowing what they are working towards each day and having opportunities to reflect on outcomes has supported motivation, self awareness and resilience. Self reflection continues to play an important role in helping young people challenge themselves, solve problems and recognise their own progress.
Young people working within hair and beauty have also continued building their portfolios while beginning to explore business planning and the practicalities of turning skills and interests into future opportunities.
Children’s Homes
April has been a positive and active month across our Children’s Homes, with young people taking part in a range of experiences during the half term break.
Trips included visits to Bournemouth beach, Thorpe Park and a shopping trip to Westfield in London. These experiences gave young people opportunities to build confidence, strengthen relationships and enjoy time together outside of their usual routines.
Two young people have also continued working towards independent travel into a local town, developing confidence, awareness and important life skills that support greater independence within the community.
Another young person has recently begun an independence plan in preparation for a move into sixteen plus provision. This next step is being approached gradually and thoughtfully, with support focused on helping them feel prepared, reassured and confident for the transition ahead.
Supported Accommodation – Storyy Homes
It has been another positive month across Storyy Homes, where we are currently supporting 14 young people. Many continue to engage in education and employment, while others are building pathways towards their next steps through tailored support and consistent routines.
One of the highlights this month has been our involvement with the Sport in Mind charity. Senior Support Worker Richard has been attending weekly five a side football sessions at Bracknell Leisure Centre alongside Nathan and Lucas. These sessions have created valuable opportunities for physical activity, teamwork and positive wellbeing.
Easter was also celebrated across all homes through decorating activities and a friendly cake competition. Young people and staff came together to take part, with Matt taking first place for his Biscoff Easter cake.
With the weather improving, young people have also been making the most of the sunshine and spending more time outdoors. These shared moments continue to contribute towards a positive atmosphere across the homes and support connection, routine and wellbeing.
A Message from the Team
April has shown the value of creativity, consistency and positive relationships. Across all services, young people have continued taking steps forward through supportive environments that encourage confidence, reflection and growth.
As we move further into the summer term, we look forward to continuing to support young people in building skills, strengthening relationships and preparing for their next steps.
