Reflecting on 2025 at Storyy Alternative Provision

As 2025 came to a close, it gave us an important opportunity to pause and reflect on what has been an impactful and meaningful year across Storyy Alternative Provision. The past year was defined by growth, commitment and an unwavering focus on supporting young people at moments when they needed stability, belief and direction the most.

Throughout 2025, Storyy Alternative Provision received a total of 198 referrals, highlighting the increasing need for calm, trauma informed support across our local communities. Over the course of the year, 138 new young people were welcomed into our provisions, and in total we supported 186 young people across our sites. Each referral represented a young person at a point of challenge, and each placement reflected our shared commitment to meeting young people where they were and helping them move forward at a pace that felt right for them.

As the year drew to an end, plans were already in place to continue this momentum, with 12 new young people due to start with us in the following term. We were also pleased to welcome 11 new schools into partnership during 2025, strengthening our collaborative approach and reinforcing the importance of joined up working when supporting young people in crisis.

One of the most significant achievements of the year was the successful reintegration of 54 young people back into education settings. These transitions reflected not only academic readiness, but also increased confidence, emotional regulation and belief in themselves. Alongside this, 33 young people were supported through our Outreach programmes, receiving personalised and flexible support that helped them remain engaged during particularly vulnerable periods.

Achievement remained a key theme throughout the year. Across all Storyy AP sites, young people achieved a total of 619 AQA awards during 2025. These achievements reflected steady engagement, perseverance and pride in progress. In addition, five young people were successfully supported to complete their exams, and 15 students received targeted tutoring support to help rebuild confidence and close learning gaps.

Beyond term time provision, Storyy AP also delivered Holiday Activities and Food programmes across Wokingham and Reading. These programmes provided safe, structured environments during school holidays and supported many vulnerable young people through our Diversion Programmes, particularly during periods when routine and structure were most needed.

When looking back across the year, it became clear that the impact of Storyy AP extended far beyond individual placements. Over 200 young people were directly supported through our provisions, and thousands more were reached through assemblies delivered across local schools. These assemblies allowed important messages around wellbeing, identity, safety and self belief to reach young people who may not otherwise have access to such conversations.

Throughout 2025, regular conversations with schools and local authorities reinforced just how valued the work of our mentors and staff teams had been. Many shared their appreciation for the way Storyy staff consistently acted as advocates and role models for young people experiencing crisis. Time and time again, feedback highlighted how young people found confidence, self belief and renewed enthusiasm for their next steps through the relationships built within our provisions. The difference made by staff across all sites was repeatedly recognised and should not be underestimated.

As the year came to a close, there was also a strong sense of pride in the creativity and care shown across all sites in the final weeks of term. The activities and sessions delivered helped young people feel connected, valued and included as the festive period approached. The effort and thought put into these moments were clear and deeply appreciated.

Looking ahead, 2026 was set to bring new initiatives and online platforms designed to further strengthen support and engagement. These developments reflected the continued commitment to growth, innovation and purposeful progress, and will be shared when teams return in the New Year.

2025 was a year filled with challenge, growth and achievement. Every success was made possible by the dedication, motivation and belief shown by staff across Storyy Alternative Provision. Each contribution played a part in creating safe spaces where young people could steady themselves, rebuild confidence and begin writing their next chapter.
