As the summer term comes to a close, we’ve taken a moment at Storyy AP to reflect on the achievements, memories, and moments that have made this term so special. Across all of our settings, students have grown in confidence, explored new ideas, and demonstrated resilience, kindness, and a love of learning. Here’s a look back at what made this summer term so memorable.

Sports Day at Storyybrook
Our Storyybrook children enjoyed an energetic and inclusive Sports Day filled with fun, teamwork, and encouragement. Students participated in a wide variety of races and games, with a focus on sportsmanship, mutual support, and celebrating each other’s achievements. Whether cheering from the side-lines or taking part in the events, every child contributed to the day’s success, showing what it means to support one another and build a positive community spirit.
Hawaiian Summer Fun Day
To round off the term, Storyybrook hosted a Hawaii-themed Summer Fun Day, which was nothing short of unforgettable. The children were thrilled by activities including:
- A visit from the local police (and a chance to sit in the police car!)
- A bouncy castle
- Face painting
- Games, laughter, and tropical decorations
This celebration marked the end of a term packed with learning, including exciting classroom topics like fossils, measuring, and the life cycle of a caterpillar, culminating in the joy of growing and releasing our own butterflies!
Celebrating Secondary Student Achievements
Our secondary students have worked hard to complete a range of AQA Unit Awards, showcasing both academic progress and valuable life skills.
Highlights include:
- Art & Design – developing creative expression through sketching, painting, and design techniques
- Nutrition & Fitness – learning about healthy lifestyles through regular gym visits and lessons in diet and wellbeing
- Gardening Skills – hands-on experience with planting and outdoor learning, promoting sustainability and mindfulness
Each award reflects our students’ individual journeys and growing confidence, achievements we’re incredibly proud of.
Functional Skills Success
Many of our students have also made outstanding progress in their Functional Skills in English and Maths. Through focused, personalised support, a number of learners have now successfully passed their assessments. These qualifications open doors to further learning, employment, and training and they reflect the real-world skills our students need to succeed. It’s been inspiring to see their confidence grow alongside their achievements.
Empowering Through Assemblies and Workshops
This term, our Assemblies Team delivered impactful sessions to schools across the region, supporting students’ personal development, safety, and awareness.
Workshops covered essential topics such as:
- Knife crime awareness
- Online safety
- Anti-bullying
- Gender, toxic masculinity, and respect
These sessions provide a safe space for young people to explore complex real-world issues and empower them with the tools, knowledge, and empathy to navigate life with confidence.
Supported Accommodation & Children Homes
It’s been a busy and uplifting summer in our four Storyy Homes, where we currently support 17 young people through care, education, and personal development.
Among them, eight are currently attending college, two are completing apprenticeships, and one is in employment. Several others are in transition between education and training, and we continue to offer tailored support as they take their next steps.
This term has brought several standout moments and achievements. One of our incredible support workers, Kass, was named Support Worker of the Year and successfully completed her NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) a huge personal milestone. In a moment of true courage and professionalism, a member of staff performed emergency CPR to resuscitate a young person in an incredibly difficult situation handled with calm, skill, and compassion.
In another great example of initiative, staff member Becky secured external funding to take one of our homes on a trip to the beach, a meaningful experience for the young people involved. Meanwhile, one of our residents has been working hard on CV writing and job applications, a sign of growing confidence and ambition we’re thrilled to see.
With the school year over for many, summer life in our homes has been full of activity. Young people have been getting hands-on in the kitchen, learning to cook meals from scratch, everything from homemade chicken burgers to delicious vegetable curries. They’ve also helped out with spring cleaning, taking pride in making their living spaces feel fresh and homely.
Looking ahead, August is already shaping up to be exciting. Thanks to support from the charity Absolutely Together, we’ve got two beach trips and two go-karting days planned, just some of the adventures still to come. As always, the creativity and energy of our young people will make summer in Storyy Homes one to remember.
