Residential Support Worker

Location: Residential Children’s Home, Earley, Reading, RG6

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week, including rota shifts)

Salary: Starting at £26,000 per annum plus £50 per sleep in (based on 1 per week, £2,600 per annum)

Role Purpose:

To provide high standards of nurturing care to children and young people, aged eight to eighteen years, who have experienced traumatic life experiences, and who present with emotional and behavioural difficulties. To use therapeutic parenting approaches to care for children and young people to help them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguard the well-being of children and young people and ensure their safety is always a priority.
  • Employ therapeutic techniques such as PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) to create a supportive environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, helping them form healthy connections both inside and outside the home.
  • Support the personal development of young people, including their hobbies, educational goals, and health.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations and contribute to the home’s upkeep and orderliness.

Who We’re Looking For:

Experience and Knowledge: Experience in residential childcare is essential. Familiarity with the Children’s Homes Regulations and a strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed care practices.

Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage challenging behaviours sensitively.

Qualifications: GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C or above; Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).

Personal Attributes: Compassionate, resilient, proactive, and genuinely motivated to support and improve young people’s lives.
