Accounts Assistant

Storyy Group, Finance

Part-time, hybrid

The role, in one line

You’ll keep the numbers clean and the foundations solid, so the rest of the group can get on with the work of supporting young people. Quiet, essential, and more important than finance roles usually get credit for.

About Storyy Group

Storyy Group works across education and care to support young people whose lives, learning, or stability have been disrupted. We run alternative provision, school-facing services, outreach, and children’s residential care, all built on calm, consistency, and clear standards.

We’re growing, and we’re growing carefully. That means building a finance function strong enough to match the ambition. This is a real moment in the life of the group, and this role is part of getting the foundations right.

The role

We’re looking for an accounts assistant to join the finance team and help run the day-to-day, as the function builds and the group grows. You’ll be supported, and you’ll get on-the-job training where you need it, but you’ll need to be organised, willing to learn, and comfortable working to deadlines that genuinely matter. This is a hybrid role with flexibility, on a part-time basis.

What you’ll actually do

  • Reconcile and post debit card transactions, petty cash, and the Amazon account.
  • Post purchase invoices and credit notes.
  • Raise sales invoices and credit notes, and resolve any queries that come up.
  • Run credit control.
  • Post bank payments and receipts.
  • Assist the Management Accountant with month-end duties.
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts across the group’s entities.
  • Help manage the group mailbox.
  • Provide cover during staff leave, and pick up ad hoc tasks as the team needs.

The kind of person we’re looking for

Essential

  • Genuinely good time management. Deadlines here are real, and people rely on them being met.
  • Strong, clear communication.
  • Comfortable working in a growing business, where processes are still being built and sharpened.
  • A real team player.

Desirable

  • Experience in a finance role.
  • Confident with Microsoft Excel and Xero or QuickBooks.
  • AAT Level 2.

How we work, in plain English

  • Be calm. Safety comes first.
  • Be consistent. Show up, every time.
  • Be real. Speak plainly. Listen deeply.
  • Be collaborative. Progress is shared work.
  • Be purposeful. Every action should move someone forward.

Pay and hours

  • Salary: £10,800 to £12,000 per year.
  • Part-time, 16 hours per week.
  • Reporting to the Management Accountant.

What we offer

  • Flexibility and hybrid working.
  • A genuine part in a purpose-driven organisation.
  • On-the-job training and support.
  • Exposure to other parts of the business, and room to grow as the function grows.
  • A competitive salary.

Practical bits

  • Department: Finance.
  • Work pattern: hybrid, part-time.
  • Right to work in the UK: required.

Why this work matters

Storyy is a purpose-led group, but purpose doesn’t excuse loose numbers. The opposite, in fact. The young people we support, and the schools, families, and local authorities who trust us with them, depend on us being well run. Clean books, accurate reporting, and money handled properly are what let a good organisation keep its promises.

This role is part of building that. It’s not the loudest job in the group, but it’s one of the ones that makes everything else possible.

If you take pride in getting the detail right, and you’d like to do it somewhere the work actually means something, we’d like to hear from you.
