We have a number of bases across Berkshire, including primary and secondary alternate provision sites, creative arts, boxing, and construction, in addition to children’s homes and supported accommodation.
We work with local authorities, schools, parents, and carers to engage children and young people in learning, positive activities, and pathways for their future. We give them the support and tools they need to write their own Storyy.
Key Objectives
1. To enrich the lives of children in our care, helping them create a brighter future in a safe, homely, fun, and nurturing environment.
2. To work closely with and support the Registered Manager with all aspects of the provision within the nominated setting.
3. To ensure effective consultation with children, staff, and all other stakeholders to support the development and maintenance of a safe and nurturing culture in line with the organisational core values and regulatory requirements
4. To fully understand and to comply with, local and organisational procedures for
promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults
5. To be a positive leader and role model, to portray a professional image and build positive relationships with all children in your care and other professionals
6. To ensure that all matters relating to child protection are managed in line with current legislation, national standards, and best safeguarding practice.
7. Ensure full compliance with the Children Homes Regulations and Quality Standards (2015), and compliance with any other regulatory expectations, being mindful of the content of the Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SSCIF)
Day-to-day responsibilities
1. To effectively manage staff alongside the Registered Manager, including regular supervision meetings and annual appraisal. Monitor staff performance and follow due process if there are concerns regarding any staff members performance.
2. To facilitate regular team briefings, meetings and training sessions ensuring regular cascading of information
3. To oversee a budget for the provision ensuring best value and appropriate records kept and passed as required to the Storyy Group finance lead.
4. Ensure appropriate and personalised target setting for all children, with impact reflected in clear reports for the local authority, which are sent on a regular basis.
5. Ensure robust on call processes are in place prioritising the safety of children and staff.
6. To support the Registered Manager with Ofsted inspections, or in the Managers absence facilitate inspections.
7. Manage all referrals for the provision in liaison with the Registered Manager, ensuring appropriate paperwork is in place and children are admitted into the provision in a timely manner.
8. Manage health & safety arrangements across the provision, including first aid arrangements, health and safety checks, risk management plans, risk assessments and any other requirement falling with health and safety legislation.
9. To lead on and model a range of behavioural intervention strategies based on the assessment of a child’s behaviour, this will include the development of Positive Behaviour Support plans.
10. To attend multi agency meetings as appropriate to share information.
11. To record appropriately and factually, ensuring staff keep children and young people’s files up to date.
12. To be aware of child safeguarding procedures and ensure that any concerns regarding abuse are immediately reported and recorded.
13. Contribute to safeguarding investigations and protection planning as needed and undertake all other duties as required in the capacity of Safeguarding Lead
14. To work as a positive role model and represent Storyy Group core values and behaviours, ensuring the work you are responsible for is in line with Storyy Group policies and procedures.
16. To comply with Storyy Group diversity & equality policy in every aspect of your work and positively promote the principles of these policies amongst colleagues, service users and other members of the community.
17. To comply with Storyy Group health and safety policy, data protection policy and to protect your own and others’ health, safety, and welfare.

Scope of role
To respond to and support the local authority to fulfil their statutory obligations for each child within a residential setting.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills and qualifications
● Have a proven history of working in an Ofsted-regulated residential children’s home and delivering either Good or Outstanding results.
● Level 5 Diploma – Leadership and management in Children and Young People’s residential services or equivalent
● A minimum of 3 years working in a children’s residential setting

● Excellent communication skills able to meet the requirements and demands of different stakeholders – written, presentational, negotiation and conversational skills.

● Highly experienced practitioner with a vast range of experience of working with children and young people who display behaviours that challenge.

Other Work Requirements

The ability to converse easily with members of the public and respond effectively to questions in spoken English.

The post holder must hold a full UK driving licence (or valid equivalent). Non-UK licences must be converted to UK licences in the first six months of employment. They must also evidence they have business insurance on their vehicle used for work.
